QUESTION: in your last note you said that you had 2x2Gb modules - did you mean 2x4? If you tested each RAM module individually and have lowered your CPU voltage as I recommended, then you should strive to get the newest drivers for your video card, DirectX, on-board I'm relieved that it wasn't a hardware issue after all, but I'm annoyed that I went to all this trouble only to find out that it's the controller!
